“Here.”
“Status on the photos?”
“The calls have been made.I expect the Eliminators will act first since they’re already on the streets waiting for the command to pick up Devon.”
Roxie turned back to the keyboard. She nodded.“Someone, make that two someones, have accessed the account.”
“You’re sure they can’t trace it back to us?
“Positive.I’ve used it many times.”
I’d have to trust she knew what she was doing. She hadn’t let them down yet.The immediate concern was whether Gheata knew someone had been in the house.I didn’t have long to wait.
“Hey, stay away from my box.”Jamal sounded drunk and belligerent.
“You shouldn’t even be allowed in the alley, you filthy waste of a human.”The voice was definitely Eastern European.
“Law’s on my side.Don’t care what you call me.”It sounded like Jamal was shifting stuff around.
“Did anyone come by here?”
There was a moment of silence then, “Now you want me to help you out? After all those names you called me?”
“Ten dollars for your time.”
Jamal gave him a crazy laugh.“Well, now you’re talking, brother.Money first.”
Roxie rolled her eyes, and I grinned.A thief never turned down the offer of free money.
“Here.Now quick.”
“Well, I can’t say I saw any faces or nothin’.But I heard feet pounding the pavement.By the time I crawled out of my box, the guy was half a block away.Back that way.He was running like the hounds of hell was chasing him.”
“You’re sure there was only one person?”
“That’s all I saw.”
“How long ago?”
“Just now. That’s why I’m out of my box.I was just getting ready to go to bed.”
The sound of feet running.“Asshole didn’t even say thank you.”
Another minute, and Jamal was back online.“He didn’t pursue. He went back in the house.Let’s give it another five minutes.”
“Cressa.”Sergi’s voice was urgent.
“I’m here.Gheata’s here. The team made it out of the house.”
“Are they back in the van?”
“No.They’re hiding in a dumpster.”
“Get them out.The Eliminators are two minutes out, and they’ll block the whole street.”
“Get them out.Eliminators two minutes out.”
Roxie relayed the information, and as soon as the dumpster lid was raised and the tarp thrown back, the cameras came to life. There was nothing but blurry images as they ran.Jamal was in the lead, Devon and Trudy next, leaving Harlow to keep up.
