Page 37 of A Winter Romance

But before Aryn had a chance to respond, they were off. A scream escaped his throat, and Sero’s laughter filled his ears. The world became a blur of white around him as his stomach dropped, and the sled flew.

Then they were at the bottom, both laughing. Sero hugged Aryn tightly, like he never wanted to let him go. “Happy Solstice, Aryn.”

Aryn smiled, leaning into Sero’s embrace.

It was only a few weeks ago that Aryn had arrived in these mountains. He’d been alone and lost, terrified of the snow and forests. How quickly everything had changed. Now he was in the same mountains, no longer alone or lost, celebrating Winter Solstice in his new home, in the arms of the man he loved.

“Happy Solstice, Sero.”

Epilogue

Dearest Mother and Father,

I hopethis letter finds you both well. As you may or may not have noticed, I haven’t returned from Castle Evermore. On the way, I got lost, was thrown from my horse, and lost all my belongings. I apologise, as this meant I was unable to present the perfume to the royal family, as I was occupied with trying not to freeze to death. Luckily, I was rescued by Sero from Ores (it’s a small village in the mountains). Long story short, I have decided to stay with him. He is beautiful and wonderful and makes me happy. He is a baker and makes the best bread and cakes I’ve ever tasted. One day, I’d like to marry him. Maybe we’ll even have children.

Anyway,I’ve decided to give up being a perfume alchemist. I’m sure we can all agree it’s not a great loss. At the moment, I’m working as an assistant baker, part-time shopkeeper, and part-time caretaker for two very energetic young girls. I know this might come as a bit of a surprise for you, but it’s the right thing for me. I’m happy for the first time in my life.

Sincerely,

Your youngest son, Aryn Greweth

P.S. Apologiesthat I won’t be back to assist with the upcoming spring collection. I am sure it will be a success without me.

P.P.S. Send Sasha and Jarne my apologies. I will not be at their wedding.
