He smirks before kissing me until I can barely remember anything at all. But when he pulls away, his smile is genuine.

“I don’t make mistakes.”

Epilogue

Theo

One year later

“Trudy, hold my calls. I’m in meetings the rest of the day,” I yell before closing my office door.

“Yes, sir, Mr. Chamberlain.”

“Trudy,” I groan and open it again. “How many times do I have to tell you to call me Theo?” The woman reminds me of my grandma. Having her call me ‘Mr.’ anything feels strange. But as usual, Trudy smiles and gives me a knowing wink. I laugh and close the door before giving my visitor my full attention.

“Now, where were we, Bri?”

Britta grins. “That’sMrs.Chamberlain to you. You might not like the formality, but I do.”

My heart stutters. “So you’ve decided? You’ll take my name?” I hadn’t minded if Britta kept her maiden name. But knowing my girl wants me enough to adopt mine fills me with pride.

My girl.

It took a while to believe she was truly mine, but one day I realized our weekends had upgraded to include weeknights. When she refused to talk about it, I hid a key in her purse. She used it without a word, seldom returning to her apartment, until one day she never went back. Again, there was no discussion, but damn if the past year hasn’t been the best conversation I’ve never had.

I hid her engagement ring the same way. When she found it, her teary nod and smile were all I needed to hear.

“Yep, Britta Chamberlain has a nice ring to it. I’ll make it official after the wedding.”

I grin. “I like the sound of that, baby.”

Britta grins a Cheshire smile. “Good. Now strip, Chamberlain. I have a hearing in an hour so we need this ‘meeting’ to be quick. I can’t be late in front of Judge Powell again. Prosecutors aren’t like defense attorneys. We don’t get free passes for tardiness.”

Fuck yes.Looks like the judgmental bitch is out to play again. Taming her is my favorite pastime.

My hand raises to my heart in mock horror. “Britta soon-to-be Chamberlain, do you only want me for my body? Don’t you love me at all?”

She rolls her eyes and walks past me to lock the door. “You know I love you, even if you are incorrigible.”

It’s a good thing her back is turned, because I’m sure my evil plan is obvious in my mischievous grin. I’m able to wipe the evidence of my premeditation right before we tear each other’s clothes off.

If I have anything to do with it, my judgmental fiancée will beverylate to court. But man, it’ll be worth it.

The End.
