“Stop hogging our boyfriend,” Hermes grumbled in a low, almost inaudible voice.
“Share,” Charon mumbled back.
“You share.”
I cleared my throat. “You’re both up. Good. I need to get to work.”
Hermes sidled up closer, and Charon blinked at me lazily.
“Darling, it’s too early. You had a long day yesterday.”
“And humans get burnout,” Hermes added.
“Yes, that thing. And you were upset.”
“And I still haven’t made my French toast for you either.”
Charon growled. “We are still in bed, so stop talking about your kitchen skills. Let Chandler get some more rest.”
“About that,” I said. “I feel well rested, and I always get up early. And you should go. You probably have things to do, whatever it is immortals do.”
Hermes snorted. “If you listen to Lucy, the only thing immortals do is working hard to keep their boyfriend in bed.”
Charon leaned forward and…kissed my chest. His lips were soft and warm, and he looked up at me, eyes bright as onyx.
“Hermes is an idiot sometimes. He doesn’t normally talk about other men when he’s in bed with someone else.”
“Wha—! I didn’t mean it like that. Trust me, baby, if you moved your sweet little ass back even a little, you’d have solid evidence that you are the only thing on my mind.”
“You know, as an investigator, I can tell you that a hard-on isn’t evidence,” I said and pushed myself up. “And because I am an investigator, I really need to get back. To investigating.”
Getting out from between them was like escaping a quicksand pit, only sexier. Charon was pretty easy to handle. He didn’t seem like a morning person, but I sort of liked the bed head he had going. Except, no. I didn’t, because what had happened had been a one-time thing, and I was pretty sure they’d see it that way once I was out of the room. After all, they had their conquest, that notch on their belt, and once I was out the door, the two of them could get back to fucking each other silly, and I could go back to spending my vacation helping Rice solve her case.
“Come back, darling,” Charon mumbled into the sheets in that way people who had trouble with mornings usually did.
“Yeah, come back, baby,” Hermes said and casually shifted the comforter so I could see. His dick.
I grabbed my pants, pulled them on, my shirt too, made sure I was all buttoned up, and called it good.
“You two take your time. Just pull the door shut, leave the extra keys downstairs, and…thanks for last night, I guess.” I bent to grab my shoes, grabbed my bag on the way to the door, one of the key cards too. “Bye,” I said and hightailed it out of there.
I only stopped when I pulled into the Brunswick police parking lot to take a few deep breaths. Last night had felt surreal, but it hadn’t been.
“Congratulations, Chandler. You can cross the threesome with two immortals off the old bucket list,” I said to the rearview mirror, then headed into the building to ask the person at the front desk where the locker room was. I couldn’t very well waltz into the murder unit without a shower.
Chapter Thirteen
Ronnywaspullingthecomforter tight around him while our boyfriend left the room. It happened so fast that I wasn’t even sure it had happened. Just a moment earlier, Chandler had been comfortably asleep in my arms, and now he was…gone?
“Ronny, you know you don’t need to sleep, right?”
I shook him by the shoulder. He was completely useless like this, and I still had the raging erection that had bothered me so much I’d forced myself to fall asleep just to get some relief.
“I committed,” Ronny mumbled. “Now I’m doing it properly.”
“You committed, and our boyfriend just ran out the door.”
Ronny shifted and blinked his eyes open. “Maybe you shouldn’t have flashed him your cock and talked about French toast. You’re so selfish sometimes.”
