“But?” Trent pressed.
“But when Grady started questioning me, it made me think in a way I hadn’t before. He made me question things.” Malachi squeezed his hands.
“Well, for once I’m glad for my nosy brother’s interference, then,” Trent said.
“Me too.” Malachi chuckled. “He helped me realise that I love you.”
Trent beamed.
Malachi shook his head. “It was so obvious once I stopped being oblivious. And then my need and love for you just swelled up inside me. I knew I needed to sing for you. For the first time in years, I sang. And you heard my song, and you came.” He paused. “And I realised you were my mate.”
“What?” Trent’s eyes widened. “I’m your mate? How is that possible?”
“I mean, I always knew it was possible for a siren to have multiple mates,” Malachi said. “Perhaps I thought that when you found and then lost a mate, your heart became so damaged that it could no longer love or find another mate again.”
Malachi looked into Trent’s brown eyes. “It turns out I was wrong about a lot of things. And I must say, I have never been so happy in my life to be so very wrong. You are my mate, Trent, and I love you with all my heart.”
Trent exhaled. “I love you too.”
Malachi leaned forward. He slid his hands down Trent’s sides. He took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of Trent. “Now Ithink that’s enough talking for today. I want to take you upstairs and show you how much I love you.”
Chapter
Forty-Five
Trent bounced on his feet, body vibrating. Malachi lit the fire, but he kept glancing at Trent, his gaze lingering as if he didn’t want to look away for a single second.
Malachi loves me! He loves me, and I’m his mate!
Trent wanted to squeal and dance and jump around. He felt like he was about to explode out of his skin. Trent was Malachi’s mate. Which meant Malachi was his! He couldn’t stand still. He was the happiest he’d ever been in his entire life.
Malachi rose and approached him. Trent stepped forward, wrapping his arms around Malachi’s waist. He buried his face into Malachi’s chest, inhaling the siren. “I can’t believe it! I can’t believe you love me!”
Malachi pressed a kiss to his forehead. “I do. So much. I’m sorry for hurting you.”
But Trent had heard enough apologies. He lifted his head. “I need you to fuck me. Show me you love me. Please.”
Pale-blue eyes darkened. “With pleasure.”
Moving back slightly, Trent began to tug desperately at their clothes, needing to get them both naked.
But Malachi seemed to have other ideas. “Shh.” He took Trent’s hands in his and kissed both. “No need to rush. I want to savour this. I want to savour you. We have all night, my love.”
My love.Trent stilled and closed his eyes at the endearment.
Malachi removed Trent’s coat and tunic. He pressed soft, warm kisses against Trent’s bare skin, stomach, ribs, and collarbone. Trent gasped as a tentacle slid down his spine.
“I love you,” Malachi whispered against his throat. “I love every inch of you.” He fell to his knees, gazing up at Trent. He pressed a kiss to Trent’s belly button.
“Thank you for waiting for me.” Malachi stroked a hand over his hip. “Thank you for not giving up on me.”
“I couldn’t. My siblings told me I needed to move on. And I knew I should try.” Trent gave a rueful smile. “But I just couldn’t stop loving you.”
Malachi slid a hand up Trent’s stomach. “Beautiful, wonderful, sweet boy. I don’t deserve you.”
Trent opened his mouth to protest.
But Malachi shook his head. “I will, however, dedicate myself to becoming worthy of you.”
