The Day Tracy Arrives
Mid-Morning to Noon
Devastation Day 1
Well, that meeting went about as well as I expected. I wish I hadn't given in to Elder Frank and had talked to Charlie before she was blindsided in front of everyone. Her face had paled, but being the classy act she is, she didn't say much of anything. It pained my heart, and it took a lot of restraint not to say anything. I can hardly wait until tonight so I can talk to her. I wish I had time now. I may try to take her to her office as soon as we are done here so I can speak with her.
Beta Ben knocks and enters my office. "I have a few of our most trusted undercover she-wolf enforcers attached to Ms. Vincent's detail. They have been sworn to secrecy. They have escorted her to the clinic and will take her to get settled in her room afterward."
"Good. Thanks, Ben." I sigh. I don't know what I would do without him right now. "Set up an emergency video conference with Alpha Rick Simpkins with the Lazy Moon Pack," I order. "You may want to let him know we are inquiring about Tracy Vincent, but no further information. He may need to invite others to this video conference.
Ask him to invite his lead enforcer so I can report the incident simultaneously. Also, inform the Elders—Tina, Frank, and Roberts—about it. Let's see if everyone's available after lunch."
"Will do, Alpha."
"I think I will head down to the clinic and see if they can go ahead and draw my blood and examine me." I say, "Hopefully, they are through with her, and she's on her way to her room."
Of course, they weren't, and she attaches herself to me like a leech as soon as I enter the clinic. Dr Bridgit informed me that it appears that Tracy is not caring for herself or her pup. She is malnourished and dehydrated. Dr. Bridgit instructs me to ensure Tracy eats at every meal and gets snacks when between.
"It's important for the baby's health." She advised.
We leave the clinic just before lunch. This mild sedative Dr. Bridgit gave me is really kicking my butt! She said it wouldn't affect me, but I must have a susceptible metabolism because I feel slightly intoxicated.
As we walk through the kitchen, I spy Mary. "Mary! I just came from the clinic, and Dr. Bridgit has placed our newest pack member, Tracy Vincent, on a healthy diet." Mary glares at Tracy but nods her head at me. "Could you ensure she gets healthy meals and snacks? Pack a picnic lunch with lots of healthy choices for today. And let Lou know when it's ready."
"Sure thing, Alpha. I'll have it ready shortly."
I see Beta Ben and call out. "Beta, I’ve ordered a healthy picnic basket for Tracy for lunch today. I know you introduced her to some of the she-wolves in the pack. Can a couple of them escort her out to lunch?" He knows I am speaking of the undercover Enforcers.
"Yeah. I'll go..."
"But Jenson! I don't want to go out and eat with strangers." Tracy moans. "I'm not hungry anymore. Maybe it was a mistake coming here. I should go back home." She gives me a sly look, the sweet facade already slipping; manipulative witch! She drops a thinly veiled threat to leave and take the baby. "Or, could you take me?" Her sickening, sweet smile is back.
Three days , I repeat in my head. I can make it three days. I need to talk to Charlie first. "Very well. Never mind, Ben." I'll go to our meadow and seek solace and comfort while dealing with this scheming witch. That place is that for me. Goddess! I wish I could bring Charlie, but that would be torture for her. I have not told her yet. Elder Tina may have been right. We have gone about this the wrong way.
I sigh as we head to the office floor. I walk through and notice Charlie's office door is open. I deposit Tracy inside mine and head over to talk to Charlie. Maybe I can explain things to her now.
"Hello, Love," I whisper to Charlie while holding her tightly. Slamming the door closed with my foot, I trail my lips down the line of her jaw to her neck, smelling that soft lavender scent that is all Charlie.
She pushes me back, "Jenson! What are you doing?"
"Nothing we haven't ever done before right here on this desk." I grin, wagging my eyebrows.
"Maybe." she says, "But you never had a baby momma trailing you before." She pointed at the door.
Right at that moment, the banging starts. "Jenson!" Tracy whines through the door. "I'm cold. Come adjust the thermostat for me." Her voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard.
I only want one hour to spend with Charlie this morning. I have to let her know the truth. Sighing, I drop my head, open the door, and return to my office, with Tracy trotting behind. How did this become my life? Three days!
A little while later, I again attempt to talk to Charlie in her office. I need to let her know what is going on. "Hey, beautiful." I try again to hug her, but she pushes me away and sits in her chair. I think she is upset with me, and with good reason. I wish I had talked to her sooner. Swiping my hand through my hair, I open my mouth to explain the situation.
Just as I am about to close the door, she smiles sexily and says, "Hey yourself." I can't resist her when she turns on the charm.
I grab her and am about tokiss her luscious mouth when a whine cuts through me. "Jenson, when are we going on that picnic? I'm starved." Tracy’s voice has become the stuff of nightmares.
Rubbing my hand through my hair, I snap. "If you will give me a minute to let my wife know!"
Shocked, her mouth drops open. She stomps her foot and flies back to my office.
Charlie makes a shooing motion with her hand. "Darling, you should go after her."
"Yeah," I murmur reluctantly. I look at my sweet mate and know how much I love her. I shake my head and get back to the matter at hand. "I had the cook prepare a healthy lunch for the pup. I'm taking Tracy out to the meadow. You know, where she can soak up some sun." I add. "The vitamin D will be great for the pup’s development." The meadow is my happy place, and I hope that going there will help me calm and center myself despite Tracy’s presence.
She nods, expressionless.
"So, I noticed boxes coming out of here a few minutes ago?" I quietly ask.
"Um, yeah. The dust was accumulating, so I put some of my things in storage." she points to the tidy shelves. "Spring cleaning. We can do yours next if you want. Just let me know, and I will arrange it."
"Oh great!" I am relieved. It worried me. I relax. "Sounds good. We will get together and plan it. Now, I guess it’s time to feed my heir." I point to my office. I am smiling and happy because I’ve seen my Charlie girl. Now, to appease the whiner. Damn you, Frank !
