“But—”
“I dinnae mind whatever wanton ideas ye may have,” he added, rolling them over so he was atop her.
He felt his member thicken, and while he knew she would be sore in the morning, he wanted her again.
“It pleases me when ye behave wantonly with me,” he purred, nipping her lips gently. “I prefer it, actually.”
His hips started thrusting, slow and gentle.
Now that he wasn’t blinded by the need for release, he could fully show her the beauty of lovemaking, and from the way her eyes darkened, it seemed she was starting to understand.
“Oh,” she breathed.
“Aye.” He smiled.
Mabel heard her husband’s breathing slow and deepen as he succumbed to sleep, and she couldn’t help but smile against his chest.
She had been so worried he would never reciprocate her feelings. Meanwhile, he, too, had fallen for her.
She smiled and snuggled deeper into his chest as she remembered his words.
“I am most lucky to have earned yer loyalty. And I am most fortunate that I get to love ye for the rest of me life.”
She was finally getting her happy ending, and it would be with her handsome, beastly Laird.
“Ye willnae sleep?” he asked suddenly, surprising her.
“Ye’re awake?” she murmured. “Did I wake ye?”
“Aye,” he croaked. “Can ye nae sleep?”
She nodded. “I feel like I am dreaming already, and if I close me eyes, all of this will disappear,” she admitted.
She had dreamt on so many nights of having her husband’s love and sleeping in his arms, and now that she had it, she felt as though she were in one of those dreams.
They had felt just as vivid, but had always left her with a sense of longing when she awoke.
“I am here, and I am yers, Mabel.” Campbell pressed a kiss to her forehead. “When ye sleep and wake up, I will be here with ye.”
“Do ye promise?”
“I promise,” he answered. “I willnae lie to ye now. Sleep, wife.”
“Verra well, husband,” she said, sighing into his chest.
“I love ye, Mabel,” he told her.
Her heart soared, and she snuggled deeper into his chest as warmth, comfort, and safety finally lulled her to sleep.
“I love ye too, Campbell.”
