Page 58 of A Country Kind Of Love
Why does real life come with nothing? Well, it comes with parental advice which holds no relevance half the time, and the occasional quote about not fearing failure.
How is she supposed to interpret that?
How is she expected to make a decision without any factual evidence as to what the outcome will be?
It’s bizarre.
And it’s life.
“Soooo... what do you think I should do?” She squintsup at Jesse.
Help.
“Really?” He smirks. “You’ll know what’s right, Dory.”
Great, that’s going to stick.
?
Marvin is visibly annoyed. Peyton can sense the change in the atmosphere, and she starts to panic. Her breathing quickens. He’s going to think she’s incapable of achieving anything in the music industry. She is being presented with an opportunity beyond her wildest dreams. An opportunity that her mom would’ve killed for, but why does it feelso tainted?
“Peyton, look, I understand your reservations, but this is what you want, right? This is why you moved to Nashville?” Marvin questions.
“Yes, but...”
“You have dreams of being a famous songwriter? At least that’s what Jesse told me.” Marvin crosses his arms.
“Erm yes, but...”
“So, let me help you do that.”Marvin says.
She wants to let him help, every instinct within is screaming at her to accept.
But––
Cleo.
“I don’t want to waste your time, and I certainly don’t want to say no to something that could help move my career forward. I just... envisioned things differently.” She grimaces. She wants to be honest, but his patience is probably wearing thin.
“Okay, so tell me what you envision.” Marvin unfolds his arms and takes a seat.
“I envision writing songs for artists. I don’t envision singing with Avery. I don’t envision singing alone either, at least not right now. I have so many great songs to offer, and that is where I wanted to position myself within the industry.”
It was the truth.
Marvin narrows his eyes. He cocks his head. He’s contemplating something.
“Okay.”
“Okay?” Peyton repeats.
“I have a proposition that I think can work for the both of us. You sign the contract today, giving me the rights to the song. In return I will give you time to figure out what it is you want to do. When you’re ready, you let me know.”
“Seriously? You’d do that?” It all sounds too good to be true, but she has no reason not to trust him, right? He is one of Jesse’s best friend’s, that has to count for something.
He shrugs. “I believe in the song.”
