Story: Whispered Desire
CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE
ALLISON
As soon as we’re able to travel, Mathias packs me into the private jet, and we fly back to Boston where he hasn’t left my side. It’s sweet and should feel overbearing, but I love being the center of his attention.
The only downside is our little vacation to Nice got postponed, since he wants me to recover in our home.
Oh, and the fact that we have matching scars. How can I forget that?
“I’ve got something for you,” Mathias says as he returns to my side in the library with a mug of tea.
“I see that.” I make agimmemotion with my hands, and he carefully hands over the mug with a sly smile.
“Not that.This.” A square box appears from behind his back.
Temporarily setting aside my drink, I study the gift as my fingertips smooth along the velvet casing. I’m not usually a jewelry-wearing girl, but for Mathias, I’d do just about anything.
And this looks like thebestkind of jewelry.
“Go on,” he instructs, and I pop the box open to reveal a diamond ring with tinier diamonds decorating the band.
Mathias plucks the stunning ring from its black bedding and kneels on one knee in front of me.
“This is a symbol of our relationship. Of our commitment to each other. I want to marry you, and if you accept my ring, you’re giving me your promise of forever. This isn’t about keeping you chained. It’s about providing you freedom to be everything you can be. Safely. Without fear. Because you know I’ll be right beside you. Because I love you. Will you be my wife, Allie Angel?”
Smiling, tears spill down my cheeks.
“Yes, I will.” I present my hand to Mathias, and the cool metal slides onto my finger, a perfect fit. A sense of security wraps around me like a cozy blanket.
This is where I’m meant to be—in Boston with Mathias, even with his dangerous vendetta against The Syndicate.
So, I guess the City of Lightsdidchange my life for the better. And Audrey Hepburn's Sabrina wasn't the only girl to find love after Paris.
I did, too.
My whispered desire came true.
