Story: Twisting You
Chapter 19
“Ok, everyone, have a good weekend.” Xavier spoke over the ringing bell signaling the end of the school day. “Chloe, could you stay for a minute?”
I groaned and stopped in the middle of the classroom. I was more than ready to make a getaway. But no Xavier had to put a stop to that.
“See you tonight, Chloe?” Scott asked quickly, while walking backwards.
“Yeah, I’ll be there,” I replied and sat on the edge of a desk. I had a feeling I would be here for a while.
“Awesome. Hospital at five,” Scott said over his shoulder before darting out the door. Xavier closed it behind him.
Scott and I had made plans to drag Dan to the hospital tonight. I still hadn’t seen him or had a chance to talk with him about his mate, seeing that he had just disappeared and gone to stay with his grandparents for a bit.
But Alec had let it slip and told me that Dan was returning today. So Scott was dragging him to the hospital. I would meet them both there.
“So what is it now, Xavier?” I sighed. “Here I was thinking I could avoid you for a whole week.”
Xavier didn’t look amused as he crossed his arms. I had avoided every conversation he had attempted to start with me at school, and I had made sure that as soon as I left the school grounds he couldn’t find me.
“What are you doing this weekend?” He attempted to hide his annoyance but I was his mate. I could hear through him.
“Anything that doesn’t involve you.” I crossed my arms. “Why? What do you and Emily have planned?”
“Saturday night are you free?”
He ignored my reference to Emily. Maybe he had forgotten he had a wife.
“Define free.”
“Chloe.” He growled and narrowed his eyes. “Don’t play with me.”
“I have no plans.” I uncrossed my arms. “How are the boys?”
“I think you know how they are.” Xavier gritted his teeth. “They’re staying at your house.”
“What?” I got up from the desk. “Since when?”
“Since your father thought it best.” Xavier snapped. “Emily isn’t coping well.”
“Oh.”
I looked at the ground now, suddenly feeling guilty for making Xavier’s life just a little bit harder. I wanted to slap myself as soon as I thought that. Xavier didn’t deserve my sympathy. He’d brought this on himself.
“So, Saturday night?” I could feel Xavier’s eyes on me as he spoke. “Would you go on a date with me?”
“WHAT!” I let my eyes snap to him. Was he crazy? “You can’t go out dating! Especially me!”
“Why?”
“A, you’re my teacher. B, you’re married. C, I don’t know if you have noticed, but I’m not talking to you.” I counted the reasons on my fingers and arched both eyebrows at him.
“You’re my mate. I want to take you out.”
“That’s a really lame reason.” I scoffed. “Sorry, not happening.”
“Fine, you just got an F in gym and health.”
“YOU CAN’T DO THAT!” I yelled and walked up to point a finger in his chest. “You aren’t blackmailing me into this!”
