Story: Three Grumpy Groomsmen
He pulls me into a hug. “Just messing with you. God, your face. That was gold, bro.”
“Don’t bro me,” I snap. “You’re a dick.”
He hugs Harrison and laughs. “Lighten up. I’m the one who’s been in the big house. What are you stressing about?”
Harrison shakes his head. “Does Lucy know what a fucking idiot you are?”
“One hundred percent.” Brad adjusts his tie. “That’s the beauty of meeting a woman when you’re at your worst. If she loves you then, she’ll love you through anything.”
Fair point.
“Jesus,” I grumble. “Okay, are you ready? For real?”
“Yep. Let’s do this. Where’s Ivy? I want to thank her.”
“I’m right here.”
My heart always skips a beat whenever Ivy walks into the room.
It always stuns me a little how damn lucky I am to have her love me. She gives us a smile as she comes into the room, in a beautiful pale pink dress that shows off her legs. Her hair is pulled back in a sleek ponytail and she has on minimal jewelry. Just the engagement ring that Harrison, Liam, and I designed for her.
I get to marry this woman and spend the rest of my life with her.
“You look beautiful,” I tell her, brushing a kiss across her cheek.
“Why thank you. You both are very handsome.” She adjusts my tie and leans around me to give Harrison a kiss.
“I could eat you alive,” he tells her.
Ivy laughs.
Liam appears in the doorway and says, “It’s time to head down to the beach. The very windy and sandy beach.”
That makes me grin.
You can take the grump out of L.A.…
“It’s April, William,” Harrison says, going over and kissing him. “It’s windy.”
“That’s my point.” But Liam returns his smile. “You look good, Harrison.”
“I know.”
I roll my eyes and clap Brad on the back.
A minute later, we’re lined up next to the arch that has been erected by the water, a few dozen guests rubbing their arms against the chill as they sit in white wooden chairs.
To my shock and surprise, Brad actually tears up when Lucy appears on her father’s arm, and strolls across the sand toward him, smiling broadly.
My first instinct was to wonder what kind of a woman marries a man three days out of prison, but then I realized it’s not anyone’s place to judge who someone chooses to love.
Look at us.
It might not be for everyone, but it works for us. So fucking well.
I steal a peek at Ivy, who has taken a seat in the front row to oversee the ceremony. Liam sits next to her, entwining his fingers with hers.
I give her a wink and she gives me that beautiful smile I get to see every day until I die.
Then I look at Brad.
Thank God this guy is an idiot.
If he hadn’t left Ivy at the altar, I wouldn’t get to stand by her next year and promise to love her for the rest of my life with Harrison and Liam.
I grin as Brad says, “I do” to Lucy.
Yeah…thanks a lot, Brad.
