Story: The Wolf of My Eye

“Nay, the brothers are going to help me. You two needthe time together, especially before the open house and all. Then after that, you can help again.” Anne winked at her.

“Are you sure? I hadn’t planned to leave it all up to you to do.”

“Mom and Dad will be here, and we have the celebration dinner tomorrow night, the open house the next day. Yeah, I’ll be good. Both William and Edward have been a real help. They won’t let me do it all alone.”

The brothers smiled.

“I always help out when anyone needs some assistance,” Edward said. “William’s just like me.”

“Yeah, I agree,” William said.

“Okay, well, thanks for all the assistance. We’re going home to have dinner and then go for our mated wolf run.”

Anne smiled. “That will be me someday.”

“Me too,” Edward said, William agreeing.

Maisie embraced her sister, and Robert hugged her after that, and they said good night to everyone.

When Maisie and Robert returned to Robert’s, well, her place now too, they carried in all the boxes and set them against one wall in the bedroom.

“Why don’t I start dinner and you can begin unpacking? Then I’ll come in and help you put the rest away,” Robert said.

“Sure, that works.” She started to put her personal items in the bathroom first, wanting to get everything sorted right away. Neither she nor Anne liked clutter, and Robert seemed to be the same way as tidy as his place was. Besides, being able to see her clothes hanging in the closet or folded in herdrawers made it much easier to choose from rather than trying to sort through cardboard boxes to find anything. Then she noticed a box that said:Unpack first.

It was in Robert’s handwriting, and she opened the box to find all her undergarments and nightwear. She laughed.

Chapter 17

Robert was so glad that Maisie was really settling in here now that she had all her clothes at the house. She probably wanted to put her clothes in some kind of order, so he would assist her in any way that he could, but for now, he was making their dinner.

As soon as it was done, he called out, “Steaks, chips, and salads are ready.” He really liked being able to cook for Maisie.

“Coming!”

She hurried out of the bedroom and gave him a hug and a kiss. “I feel like I’m home now. I’m so comfortable with you—and now that I have my clothing and my personal items, I feel I belong here permanently.”

“Aye, exactly. And I’m glad for that. It’s like living out of a suitcase at a hotel without the suitcase.”

She laughed. “Right.”

They sat down to eat their dinner. She took a bite of her juicy steak seasoned to perfection. “Oh, this is divine.”

“Thanks. We need some protein for our jaunt as wolves.”

“I can’t wait to go for our run, though I really want to unpack my clothes and put them away.”

“We can do some of that tonight afterward.” He thoroughly enjoyed running as a wolf with her.

She laughed. “Yeah, but you know what I want to do instead of putting my clothes away after our wolf excursion?”

“Aye, me too.” He was glad that she wanted them to make love after the run. If she wanted to unpack her clothes after that, he would certainly help her.

“We have most of the day to sort out the clothes, or I do,” she said.

“I’ll help you with everything you need me to do.”

“Thanks.”
