Story: The Wife Situation
Lexi dresses and I do the same.
I move in front of her and grab her cheeks, noticing she’s upset. “Babe, I’m not marrying you to give me an heir. I don’t care about that.” I drop to my knees in front of her, peeling her shirt up and kissing her stomach. “You’reperfect, just the way you are.”
She wraps her arms around my head, pressing me against her as I inhale the sweetness of her sweaty skin. Her fingers twirl in my hair.
“You said you wanted kids with the right person,” she mutters. “That’s on repeat in my head.”
“When that time comes, there are ways. But if you think that makes me want you less, you’re fucking mistaken. It changesnothingfor me.”
She drops to the ground so she’s in front of me. “You promise?”
“Yes,” I say without hesitation, sliding my hand behind her neck and pulling her in for a kiss. “Raw truths, Lexi.”
“Okay,” she whispers, painting her lips across mine. Her fingers press into my cheek as the kiss deepens. “I don’t deserve you.”
“That’s where you’re wrong,” I say, nuzzling my nose against hers.
Her phone buzzes on the blanket, and she presses the button on the side. “The alarm I set for midnight. Happy day fifteen.”
I chuckle as we stand.
Lexi looks up and points. “The Milky Way.”
I shove my hand in her back pocket, holding her against me. “Incredible. I guess we can mark under the star love-making off our bucket list.” I smirk.
She gasps. “Oh, you’re right. But we might have to replace it with another.”
“Fuck, I love the sound of that. What do you have in mind?”
“Your office.”
I shake my head. “You’re searching for trouble.”
She wraps her arms around me. “I’ve already found him.”
When the Milky Way is high above, we make our way back to the B & B with swollen lips and smiles on our faces as fireflies surround us.
“So, it’s officially day fifteen, and you survived like a warrior princess. However, I still need the answer to my question. Are you anti-love?”
She glances over at me, smirking. “I was until I met you.”
Thirty minutes later, we’re stepping onto the back porch of the B & B.
“Is this the walk of shame?” Weston asks, sitting in the dark with Brody next to him.
“Kindly fuck off,” I snap as I reach for Lexi’s hand, leading her to the door.
“Heard you beat the shit out of her brother,” Weston says, and Brody chuckles. “I got questioned about it at the diner.”
I turn to Lexi. “You weren’t kidding about news spreading around town fast, were you?”
“No,” she admits. “By morning, everyone will know.”
“Thanks for not getting punched in the goddamn face. You still owe me for the last time I had to wear a black eye for your ass,” Weston says.
Lexi walks over to him, gives him the bottle of Fireball, and pats him on the shoulder. “You should really get laid,” she says.
“Holy shit. Was that a burn?” Weston asks, bursting into laughter.
