Story: The Vampire's Soul

Blinking awake, she stared at him and a smile appeared on her lips. He figured she had momentarily forgotten what had just happened. So, he took a moment to take in her gorgeous features.

How had he waited so long?

What a fool.

“How are you feeling?” Mack asked, and her smile faded as she shuffled away from him and up the wall.

Shit.

“Woah, stop, Ella.” Mack held up his hands.

“Stay back. What the hell was that...wolfy stuff? It was a costume, right? Tell me it wasn’t real. Mack. Tell me!”

Um, nope.

Climbing to his knees, Mack kept his hands up to show he wouldn’t harm her, then lowered his ass. He was huge compared to her and doubted she felt safe with him looming over her.

Maybe talkingwasa good idea.

Mack gave her time to calm down and see he was the same vampire she’d known all her life. Her mate. The boy who fixed her bike.

“It’s still me.” His voice was soft but rough. “Are you okay?

“No.”

He nodded, not taking his eyes off her.

“Was that real?” she asked, gripping a blanket and tugging it to her chest.

“Yes.” He placed his hands on his thighs as his quads burned from the uncomfortable position. But he’d stay here as long as it took.

“Will I change? Into a wolf?”

Mack shook his head, hoping he was telling her the truth, for both their sakes. “No. Sage thinks Callan is the only one capable of infecting vampires. Kurt didn’t—”

“What? Madison’s a wolf?!” Ella cried.

Oh yeah, about that.

He had so much to tell her.

“She’s a hybrid like me. Well, except Callan isn’t her alpha. Madison rejected him when she bonded with Kurt. The dominant fucker.”

She blinked.

“Anyway, that’s another topic. The point is, he never changed, so we don’t think you will,” Mack said and moved so his legs stopped burning.

“Think?” Ella hissed, then moved so fast, pushing his chest. “You bit me without permission, knowing youmightchange me into a whole other fucking species?”

They both went falling onto their sides, Mack catching her and tugging her against him.

“El, baby. Stop. You’re my mate and we might not fucking be here tomorrow.” He growled before he could stop himself.

Oops.

She froze.

“What?”
