“Troy got fussy, so I put him down, and he drifted right off for a nap,” she explained as she handed Talon the baby monitor.
He gave her a chin lift. “Thanks.”
There was a rumble of a bike in the driveway as Sheila shrugged on her jacket. “That’ll be Tank, come to pick me up.”
“Thanks so much for keeping an eye on her for us.” I gave her a quick hug. “And the cookies.”
“Any time.” She beamed a smile at us before walking out the door.
Talon slung our daughter onto his shoulder like a sack of potatoes, making her shriek with laughter. “Show me where the cookies are, my little menace. Your mama needs a treat after working so hard.”
I kicked off my shoes and followed them into the kitchen, sidling up to Talon after he set Calida on her feet again. “A cookie sounds great, but I can think of an even better treat.”
He captured my mouth in a deep kiss before growling, “And you’ll get that too, after we put her down for bed.”
I ended up getting more than I bargained for. The pregnancy test I took the next day was negative, but the one a month later was positive. And it was twins.
