Story: Marry Me
“Well, that name carries a lot of weight in this town. I can’t help but wonder a little bit, too.”
Allison tilted her head. “What do you wonder?”
“How long it will take for the newness of all this to wear off before you start remembering all the perks that come on Brent’s arm.”
Allison deflated, surprised to hear Megan’s words. Her fear. She stood and leaned against the desk alongside Megan. “I want you to listen to me, okay?”
“I always listen to you.”
“I like where we’re at. I’m not thinking about Brent, or the engagement. It’s my hope that my future is with you.” Okay, maybe she was sounding a little too serious, and nerves crept in. She rushed to reassure Megan that she hadn’t already decided on paint colors for their future home. She didn’t want to scare her away. “Not that I expect us to be there just yet. It’s just a little daydream I have, which I probably should keep to myself.”
Megan, to her credit, didn’t seem too spooked. In fact, she wasted no time in leaning down and kissing Allison, which prompted an outbreak of goose bumps on all her limbs and stoked a physical longing Ally was growing used to.
“I have a new gay friend.” That was the sentence she uttered themoment the magical kiss ended. She wished she could explain why, but here they were.
Megan blinked, amused. “I’m sorry, what?”
“A friend from work is gay, and she’s been a great sounding board about all this. Lacey. I might send her a five-layer dip to say thank you. It’s a specialty.”
“I’ll need to try it. Lacey’s a lesbian colleague?”
Allison’s cheeks went hot, hearing how this all must sound. “Yes, and she’s been so helpful in the listening department. She’s fifth grade. They’re wise.”
“She’s been your Kelsey.”
“Oh.” Allison enjoyed this insight. “Kelsey is your person?”
“Mm-hmm. I tell her everything, and she helps me see the world clearly and not run screaming from my own emotions.” She frowned. “Mostly. Sometimes she encourages me to chuck my common sense out the window and run into traffic, but together we make our way through. Mostly.”
Ally stood in front of Megan and placed a soft kiss along her jaw. “I’m happy you have her. I hope she likes me.”
“She says you’re okay.”
Allison’s eyes went wide. “I can send her a five-layer dip.”
“I’m kidding.”
“Oh, good.”
“You’re cute.”
“You’re sexy. Really. A lot.”
Megan laughed and turned her head, catching Ally’s mouth in a hungry kiss that finally brought them together. “What am I going to do with you?”
“That’s the part I have very little clue about, but I was hoping it might be sooner rather than later that there’s doing.” There her mouth went again, running away with its damn self.
“Yeah? I think we can arrange that. Just waiting to hear these words first.”
“Well, I’ve said them now. Can we do this some more first?” Ally asked, leaning back in and hovering just shy of Megan’s mouth before sinking into the kiss, which went from zero to sixty in no time, wedging her body between Megan’s legs, which she was finding was one of her favorite places to be. Tongues, lips, and unmatched chemistry.Oh, my.
“I love the way you kiss me,” Megan managed between kisses. “Your lips. God in heaven.”
With that kind of encouragement, she slid her hands into Megan’s jacket and around her waist, savoring the warmth coming through her shirt. She felt so connected to this woman, so enraptured.
“Do you want to come over tonight?” Megan asked, her voice low and husky. Allison loved the way it sounded when she was turned on. Given their exchange, she’d be coming over for a lot more than a friendly glass of wine. God, she wanted that. Longed for it. Yet at the same time, alarm bells sounded, and her brain switched to panic mode, searching for a bailout button.
“What about tomorrow?” Better. Less daunting, because tomorrow was a long time from now. The pivot would buy her a full twenty-four hours to calm the hell down. Or twenty-four hours to overthink everything. So that might be bad. She should just jump and embrace all the signals her body was giving her, because it had a lot of opinions when Megan was in the room in a blazer like this one.
