He yanked her up against his body, lifting her off her feet. Then he kissed her again. Her fingers tangled in his hair, holding his head in place as she enjoyed the kiss. Cheers and applause swirled around them. The noise didn’t register with her until Luke pulled away and placed the ring on her finger. She stared at it and then looked around her into the faces of the people she knew and loved.

Coming out of the shadows were English, Easton, Ben, Jackson, and Reagan, who held Jax in her arms. Becky stepped forward with Lyric in tow. Then her eyes rested on Erin, Sandra, and the rest of her co-workers. More people joined them, people she’d gotten to know since moving to Fire Creek, people who’d played a role in helping her fall in love with her new home.

“She said yes!”

Luke’s shout carried over the applause, and the cheers grew louder. Melody laughed, giving in to the tears filling her eyes. The next few minutes passed in a blur as Melody stood beside Luke to accept handshakes, hugs, and congratulations. Annilee recruited help in bringing food from the kitchen. Someone started some dance music, and the engagement party was in full swing.

Melody finally had a moment to catch her breath and return to her fiancé’s arms.

“I can’t believe you did this. I suspected you had something up your sleeve, but never this.”

Luke held her close, and their bodies started to sway. They moved not to the upbeat music playing but to a rhythm all their own.

“I’ll admit, it was your sister’s idea. I wanted us to be alone when I asked you. The more I thought about it, the more I realized we couldn’t do this without everyone. They’ve been a part of our relationship from the beginning.”

“You’re right. It’s perfect.”

He spun her around. Even with the lively conversation and music, she felt like she was wrapped in a bubble with Luke. Everyone except for Luke faded from her consciousness. She couldn’t look away from his face, the weight of the ring on her left hand adding to her joy.

He scanned the activity around them and scowled. “I don’t know if I’d call this perfect. We’re glad they’re here now, but they’re going to be a pain in our ass from now on.”

“Wanting to give us advice for the wedding, making suggestions for our honeymoon, asking when we’re going to have children...You sure you’re up for this? Want to take your proposal back?”

His gaze was fierce when he met her eyes. “No way in hell. I’m in this, baby. All in.”

Her smile was brilliant. “Me too. I don’t want any of this to be any other way. This is the life I want. You are all I want.”

He kissed her again, but this time, the firm kiss was brief.

“Hey, you two, stop making out and come eat,” Jackson shouted at them.

“Yeah, come eat,” Davis repeated.

Luke and Melody laughed together, her heart warming at the sound. They joined their family and friends in the celebration. She enjoyed the attention and well wishes for now, but Melody couldn’t wait for the time when she could be alone with Luke. She was ready to have her own private celebration with the man she loved.
