Story: Jax
I give her a dubious look. She should know me better by now than to assume that I’m just going to take that. Iwillbe paying Cole back.
I pat Jax’s hand as if to tell him so, even though he’s not had the reaction I thought he would after Leenie’s confession that her gang leader brother paid off my freaking high restitution bill of two hundred grand. Apparently, over the years, Psycho and I swindled a lot of people out of money. I only got stuck with one eighth of it for my part, and even then, I was practically hyperventilating figuring out how I was ever going to pay it off. That’s when Jax told me I could work at the gym and the Ring to help.
“Don’t worry,” Jax says in my ear, licking it quickly until it feels like my legs are going to give out. “You’re still going to work for me.”
“For us,” Finn corrects.
“How do you think you’ll like being the salesgirl?” Leenie asks.
I shrug. Not to poke fun at the people I lied to and took advantage of but it seemed pretty obvious when Jax offered that I could be especially helpful with one position: sales. Apparently I can talk people into spending money on anything so this should be easy.
“Now,” Jax says, spinning me around to face him again. My heart lurches in my chest as he grips my hips. “Are you ready to finally start your real life?”
His words coat my skin in a happy hum. “As long as I’m with you.”
Jax grins and nips at my ear. “You’re never getting away from me again, Sadie Lovell.”
Not that I’d ever want to again.
He slides his fingers through mine, and we hold on to each other. Something we should’ve done from the moment it got rocky. I know better now to keep the people by my side who will do anything for me. Feeling’s mutual, too.
“Oh, you didn’t show her,” Finn says, talking to us over his shoulder.
“Show me what?” I ask.
Jax hits his brother upside the head. “I was waiting.”
“Oh shit. Sorry.”
Finn grimaces at Leenie, and they hurry up and get in the car.
I peer at Jax curiously. “Show me what?”
He lifts his shirt, and my gaze immediately searches for the scars that he got that night six months ago. Two blade wounds and a gunshot hole. He sent me pictures in the mail after I made him.
Now, though, I don’t just see scars. He’s gotten new tattoos to hide them.
Sadie = Hope
I press my hand into the round scar, the one where the gunshot wound went in, and drop my head against his chest. I know what tattoo I’ll be getting now.
“See?” Jax offers as he runs his hands through my hair. “I told you you were everything.”
Fuck me. I couldn’t love this man more than I do right now. “You’re my everything, too,” I breathe.
Once again, he clasps my hand, and we make our way to the car interlocked with one another. The same way we’ll be for the rest of our lives.
