Story: Is It Casual Now?
“For the better?” Jamie questioned, hating how much she still needed that reassurance.
“Oh most definitely.” Siena took the flowers from Jamie and led the way into the kitchen. “Let me get these in some water for you, and then I’m taking you out for dinner.”
“You are?” This was the first Jamie had heard about it.
She knew Siena hadn’t forgotten her birthday. She had made Jamie breakfast in bed before she had raced off to work that morning and promised a present tonight. But Jamie had almost convinced herself that Siena hadn’t even gotten her a present yet.
Right now, she still wasn’t entirely sure.
Siena had been a lot more distracted over the last few weeks, and Jamie had felt it like a reminder of the past. It wormed its way into her fears.
“Of course I am. I know I’ve been extra busy with work lately.” Something darker shadowed Siena’s eyes for a moment before she shook whatever it was away. “But it’s your birthday, and I want to spoil you rotten.”
“Oh, do I have to change into something nicer, then?” Jamie looked down at her work attire and worried at the casualness of the outfit. At least in relation to whatever fancy restaurant Siena obviously had in mind.
“Nope. What you’re wearing is perfect.” Siena smiled as she finished with the flowers and gave Jamie a proper welcome home. Their lips slid across each other’s, and soon Jamie forgot all about the crappy things from the day and lost herself in Siena’s kiss.
“We better get going.” Siena stopped their kissing, but her lips remained on Jamie’s, the movement of her speech tickling Jamie’s lips.
“Do we have to?” Jamie purred, pressing her body a little closer to Siena’s.
“Any other day, I’d say no. But it’s your birthday, and I want to show you off to the world.”
“Hmm.” Jamie’s mind ticked over.
What in the hell did Siena have planned? First, she assumed a fancy restaurant, but now… Show her off to the world? Jamie felt lost.
“It’s okay. Trust me, I’ve got you.”
“I trust you. But that doesn’t mean your secret plans aren’t terrifying me.” Jamie chuckled, feeling the last of the tension from the day melt away.
The phone call she had overheard could have been nothing. She had returned home early and maybe Siena was just talking to Tori or something and wanted to make sure all her attention was on Jamie when she got home.
It didn’t seem entirely correct, but then again, it didn’t feel out of the realm of possibility either. She pushed away her internal critic and focused on the positives. Siena had made plans for her birthday, and who cared if the plans had only been made today? People forgot things all the time, and with the amount of work Siena had, Jamie was happy she’dbeen able to finish work early enough to take Jamie out for dinner.
When they arrived, Jamie turned to Siena, eyebrows furrowed and a question on the tip of her tongue. Siena laughed, threaded Jamie’s arm through her own, and walked toward the tapas bar.
“Trust me, Jamie. You’re going to love tonight.”
“You’re demanding this trust a little too much lately, Ms. Frazee.”
“Well, Ms. Kettlehouse…” Siena purred back, instantly willing to fall into the sexy and playful banter of the past. “I’m not the one who’s given you any reason not to trust me.”
“Au contraire,” Jamie retorted as they stepped inside and were surrounded by the ding and clatter of the busy tapas bar. “You’re an entertainment manager. I have zero reason tosimplytrust you.”
“Hmm.” Siena’s eyes smoldered as they turned to Jamie before turning back to the counter where she gave her name, and they were quickly led to a table.
“This is the same table,” Jamie said, unsure if it were coincidence or not.
“It is,” Siena said with a smile and glistening eyes.
Not a coincidence then.
“You’re recreating the first time we met?” Jamie’s stomach tightened at the mixed emotions she had from that night.
“Well, some of it.” Siena smiled, and Jamie’s underwear grew wet at the look Siena gave her.
“You’re such a romantic.” Jamie laughed, unsure if she was being sarcastic or not. Maybe a bit of both.
