Over dinner we talked about everything and nothing. My hand kept drifting across the table, toying with his wedding band. I was still in disbelief that we were actually married although it felt like we had been from the very beginning.
“How is the food?” he asked just as I shoveled a forkful into my mouth.
“So good.” I groaned. “I haven’t had a bad meal here yet.”
“Naw, for real.” He chuckled. “I fuck with the lil’ barbecue spot we went to the other day. Definitely going back before we go to the crib.”
We’d gone to Fatboy Jimmy’s our first day here after we checked into the resort. It was original, Caribbean barbecue that was absolutely delicious. You could legit smell the grill from a mile away.
There were tons of good places to eat. They even did fresh barbecue at the pool so we were able to get wings while we were there.
“Yeah, it was fire.” I giggled then looked around. “Could you stay in a place like this?”
“If you were there, yeah,” he replied simply. “But AC is home. I wouldn’t want to be this far from our people.”
“You’re right.” I turned my attention back to him. “I’m just enjoying the calm and the peace.”
“You can come here whenever you want, as much as you want.” He confessed. “Say the word and I’m puttin’ you on a jet.”
I smiled and reached to interlock our fingers. “You know what I’m still stuck on?” I asked. “It’s cheesy, but I still have butterflies from it.”
“What?”
“When we checked in and you told them to make sure that there were extra bottles of water brought up because your wife wakes up to drink at all hours of the night.” I grinned. “I love hearing you say it.”
“I hope so because yo’ ass stuck with me forever.”
“I can’t wait to get home andmy husbandeveryone to death.” I smiled. “It doesn’t even have to have anything to do with you, I’m still going to be like ‘oh, my husband this’ or ‘my husband that’.”
We shared a laugh.
“Run it in the ground baby, fuck it. It’s gon’ boost my ego even more because niggas gon’ know I bagged that for real.”
“I like us.” I gave his hand a gentle squeeze and he returned the gesture.
“Me too.” He agreed. “You’re my peace. My favorite part of the day.”
“Da-Da!” Nai exclaimed pulling a chuckle from us both. It was funny because she was acting like she knew what he’d just said.
“You too, baby girl.” He tapped her cheek.
“Are we going to do dessert?”
“Saving that for when we go back inside.”
“You have dessert inside?”
“Not yet.” He smirked.
“Baby…” I blushed.
“You ready to go in?”
“If you are.”
He stood and grabbed Nai from her seat first then extended a hand to me. Once I’d accepted he led us inside where we gave our daughter a bath and got her ready for bed, reading her a bedtime story until she was fast asleep then we went to shower ourselves.
In there we took turns washing each other in silence, then once we were clean he leaned in to kiss me softly. It started with a few pecks but quickly turned into something deeper. My hands roamed freely all over his body and his did the same until he finally broke the kiss.
He turned slightly to turn the water off then we stepped out of the shower to dry off. As soon as he thought that I was done, he scooped me bridal style and carried me to the bedroom, gently laying me down on the bed, hovering over me, placing soft kisses on my lips.
“It’s time to make good on your promise, wife,” he said and smiled. I couldn’t help but do the same. Especially hearing him call me that.
“What promise?”
“Lettin’ me sit yo’ fine ass down for another nine months.” He grinned.
I held his stare for a second before lifting my head to kiss him again before asking, “well, what are you waiting on, husband?”
The End!!!
