“Look, Kenndrix, I know what that looked like and I can only imagine how it made you feel and the way your mind probably reacted to it and I’m so sorry for that. It’s going to sound like one of those stupid cliche lines from a cheesy romance movie, but it wasn’t what it looked like,” Jaxx tells me, his eyes pleading with me to listen to him.

My mouth falls open. “Really?”

“Yes, really. When I got home, Rome was still there. We had a few minutes to catch up but it was mostly about what he had done while we were in New York. Anyways, I kept yawning because the minute I saw my house the jet lag set in. So he told me to go to bed and we’d catch up on my time away soon. I took a shower and laid down with the intention of waiting for you to get there but I fell asleep. We both know I sleep like the dead. Apparently, when Rome was packing up to leave Poppy showed up and he thought I was still seeing her so he let her inside. I guess she climbed into bed with me. When I first woke up and rolled over, I assumed it was you, but it wasn’t. That’s what happened and I’m sorry it looked like anything else.” Jaxx stuffs a hand in his pocket and pulls out a slip of paper and passes it to me.

“What’s this?” I ask.

“Rome’s cell number. You can ask him anything you want and he’ll tell you.” Jaxx didn’t do anything wrong. I can tell by his demeanor. I know him too well. Tears spring to my eyes and start to roll down my cheeks. He closes the distance between us. “Please, don’t cry. I’m so sorry for everything. I’ll leave and you’ll never have to see me again if that’s what you want but I wanted you to know what really happened. You deserved that. It’s always been you, Kenndrix, only you. I’ve loved you forever, I’ll love you forever more.” He leans forward and presses a quick kiss to the tip of my nose before stepping back and then walking around me to the front door.

My heart is screaming for him, but my head is telling me to let him go, he’s only going to hurt me. I only have a moment to make a decision. “Jaxx…” I call out in a sob. His footsteps stop and I turn around to face him. “I love you, too, so please don’t walk away again.”

This time he takes no time reaching me and pulling me into his arms before kissing me breathless. “Never again,” he tells me, when he pulls away.

Epilogue

1 year later

Kenndrix

It seems so odd to be back in the exact room where it all started a year ago today. Benjamin hasn’t changed a bit thankfully. I hear the shower running and know that Jaxx is already awake. This past year has been one of the best. Jaxx is the most sought-after stuntmen in the business and Golden House Productions has definitely made a name for itself. I couldn’t be happier or prouder. Most of the time, our schedules are packed, but we both make an effort to see each other every chance we get. Jaxx completely cleared our schedules a few months ago for this weekend though. Our one-year anniversary. He told me he had something special planned but I had no idea he was bringing us back to New York City, even though it seems fitting.

Jaxx appears in the bathroom door, with a towel around his hips. His hair is currently buzzcut from his last job but it’s grown on me. “Well, good morning beautiful.”

“Now, this is a sight I could get used to seeing,” I tell him with a wink.

He chuckles. “Oh, I’ve got a better one for you,” he tells me with a smirk and mischievous glint in his eye. I watch as his hands travel down his body to the towel before he drops it completely. I roll back and laugh and he jumps on the bed and his lips find mine.

A few hours later and we’re both finally dressed for the day. It’s like Deja vu because Jaxx’s only instructions were...dress comfortably. Today, I decided to go with my yoga attire and a pair of comfortable sneakers. I take the elevator down where I find Jaxx waiting by a taxi for me. So much for hearing where we’re going when he tells the driver. “You and your surprises.”

“You love them,” he tells me, with a cheesy smile.

I shake my head. “Not at all, but I do love you,” I tell him.

I slide into the backseat of the taxi and Jaxx follows. The driver pulls out into the traffic. “Turn around” Jaxx instructs, producing a black cloth from his pocket.”

“I’m sorry, what?” I ask him. I’m not seeing what I think I’m seeing.

Jaxx smirks. “I’m blindfolding you.”

“I hate you,” I tell him as he slips the blindfold on.

“You love me,” he says, as he ties the cloth over my eyes and presses a kiss to my neck. The entire ride is one long confusing bit of time. It’s odd not being able to see what’s going on around us. Finally, we stop and Jaxx helps me out of the taxi after he pays the driver. Once he unties the cloth it takes my eyes a moment to adjust to the light. Central Park comes into view. “Surprise,” he tells me. He takes my hand in silence as we make our way to whatever destination he has planned. We finally stop in front of the Charles B. Stover Bench, also known as the Whisper Bench. It was always on my bucket list but we didn’t make it last time. “They say a whisper spoken into one end travels to the other clearly. Do you want to try it?” he asks.

I nod my head enthusiastically. I go to an end and wait for him to do so. I kneel down and whisper “I love you.”

Jaxx chuckles and it comes through loud and clear. “So, no more hating me?”

I shake my head. “Nope never ever.”

“Good. I have a question for you,” he tells me.

“Okay.”

He’s silent for so long I’m fixing to turn towards him when I hear. “Will you marry me?”

My heart stops and I stand up to face him, only he’s down on one knee with a ring in his hand. Tears prick my eyes. “Yes, forever more.”

Jaxx stands up and rushes towards me. He wraps his arms around me, picking me up and spinning me around while I squeal in surprise. When he puts me back down he slips the ring on my finger. I can’t believe this is real. “I love you Jaxx Scott but are you sure you really want to spend your life with me?”

He smiles. “I love you, Kenndrix and yes I’m sure I want to spend my life with you sinning on every one of your dangerous curves.” My head falls back in laughter before I kiss him as if he’s the air I breathe and maybe that’s because he is.
