Page 94 of Claiming His Rejected Mate
Then he speaks, voice low, rough. “Let’s go home.”
I almost can’t believe the estate is my home now. My life has changed so much. It almost feels like vertigo.
The gates of Moonfang open before us, torches illuminating the path as we return victorious.
The moment we step through, a roar of cheers erupts.
Moonfang warriors, Omegas, and even the Nightclaw warriors who fought beside us, stand waiting, their faces alight with relief and triumph.
Despite the exhaustion weighing on my limbs, I hold my head high.
We did this.
We survived this.
But as we move through the courtyard, my mind is elsewhere.
The seal.
I glance at Magnus, who has been walking behind me since we left the battlefield. He hasn’t spoken much, but I can feel his gaze on me. Watching. Waiting.
Now is the time.
I slow my steps until I’m walking beside him. He looks down at me, silent, expectant.
I don’t bother with small talk.
“The seal,” I say, keeping my voice even. “How do I get rid of it?”
His jaw tightens, as if he was expecting this, but still dreading it. “There’s only one way. The Witch of Wilfer has confirmed that it is only the mark of your true Alpha blooded Mate,” he confirms. “Only that can break it. Nothing I would have done–”
“Save it.”
My breath catches.
I look at Kieran walking to his court, his stride confident and dominant. My pulse is thrumming in my ears. His expression is unreadable as he speaks with his subordinates, but his hands clench at his sides.
This is it.
The final step in severing the chains that bound me to my past.
The only thing keeping me from being whole.
I go to my room to clean up. The Omegas assigned to help me get to work. I enjoy the way they make my body feel, with healing rubs and massages. My wolf purrs in satisfaction.
When I am dressed and ready to join my Mate in the dining hall, where I assume we will be celebrating our victories, Sylvia steps forward. “Come,” she says, her voice gentle but firm. “Kieran has arranged for you to specially prepare before you see him.”
I blink, caught off guard. “Prepare?”
She smiles and leans in slightly. “Trust me.”
I hesitate, but my belly is giddy with excitement at what Kieran must have planned.
So, I follow Sylva, my heart pounding with every step.
