“You steered clear of the CCTV cameras, but we were still able to get a description,” I say, turning toward the audience, most of whom are now slowly turning around to look at an increasinglyagitated Marcus Fairway. “Fairway must’ve gotten tired of your gambling addiction, causing him to lose his confidence in you. That’s why he kept his meeting with Robson out of his diary. He was going to add Rebecca to his will, wasn’t he?”

Marcus just stands there, ashen and frozen, slowly shaking his head.

“You had a fight with your father about it,” Lucas suggests. “You probably didn’t mean to hurt him. Maybe things got out of hand. Maybe it was an accident.”

“No, nothing like that,” Marcus manages.

But I know he’s lying. It’s written all over his face.

“He must’ve said something that really made you mad,” I say.

“He was going to leave Rebecca everything!” Marcus finally snaps, then takes a deep breath, realizing what he just said.

A split second later, he makes a run for the hall’s double doors. But Mitch and Tyler are faster as they bolt after him, tackling him like two devastating missiles.

Gasps and murmurs erupt from the wedding guests while I can’t help but smile. Lucas pulls me into his arms. “You are incorrigible, you know that, Mrs. Riggs?”

“That’s got a nice ring to it, indeed, Mr. Riggs,” I reply.

“You just couldn’t help yourself, could you.”

“It was nagging the hell out of me,” I admit, then give the pastor an apologetic smile. “Sorry, sir…”

“Will you two just kiss and take that man to jail already?” Pastor Jim mumbles, waving his hand dismissively.

I can’t help but laugh as Lucas plants a most decisive kiss on my lips. The wedding guests join in the laughter and cheer us on, applauding both the newly wedded couple and the sheriff’s valiant deputies as they slap a pair of cuffs on Marcus Fairway.

“I love this,” I tell Lucas, cradled in his embrace.

“This? You almost messed up a perfectly good wedding ceremony,” he jokes.

“I made it a lot more interesting.”

He concedes with a nod. “Fair enough. At least everyone will remember our wedding day, that’s for sure.”

Danica brings our twins over, both of them awake and eager to be held. “Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Riggs. I have a couple of kids who look forward to congratulating you, as well.”

“Oh, good!” I exclaim, lighting up like the sun at the sight of them.

Mitch and Tyler leave Marcus with one of the other deputies, then rush back to hug me and lovingly kiss my face.

“Would you look at that, Mrs. Riggs. We nailed a perp while getting married. We have a lot to celebrate tonight,” Mitch whispers in my ear.

“And then some, dear husband,” I whisper back, looking at Tyler and giving him a wink. “Husbands.”

I can’t wait.
