Story: Broken Truths
His gaze burns through me. “For Eden, I’d give up everything.”
I don’t think I ever would’ve dreamed of this future. Hell, I know I wouldn’t’ve. I’m too much of an asshole to share a girl. In fact, I was content just sleeping with women. I didn’t actually want to be around one afterward, yet here we are, the both of us talking about giving up everything for the same one.
“What about your inheritance?” Alaric asks.
Shit, I hadn’t even thought about that in so long. When I leave with Eden, there’s no way he’ll sign it over to me, but I don’t care. For a while, it was the only thing I wanted because it’s rightfully mine. I’m the heir. But if I don’t get it, I’m at peace with that now. I mean it when I say that the only thing I really want is for Eden to be happy.
Alaric laughs. “What are you going to do if you don’t have any money?” His eyes crinkle, and he keeps laughing harder and harder.
“Alright, asshole. What the fuck are you going to do?”
It takes him a while to settle down. He wipes his eyes. “Teach, I think. I kind of liked it.”
“You only liked bending Eden over your desk.”
He smirks. “That was a highlight, but since I’ll most likely be disinherited too, I’ll need something to do.”
He raises his brows, waiting for me to come up with something. I shrug. “Maybe I’ll start a go-kart track.”
“Or if you had a vagina, you could apply for Blood Red.”
“Fuck no. I’m getting out of the clandestine shit. We’ll already need to fly under the radar for the rest of our lives.”
“I’m okay with that.”
Me too, I think. More than okay.
Footsteps sound on the stairs, too heavy to be Eden’s. Oliver peeks into the kitchen. “What’s up, lads?”
Alaric lifts his coffee cup to him. “Leo and I are discussing what we’ll do after we get out of the Knights since we’ll both most likely be disinherited.”
Oliver rounds the counter with a smile on his face and gets out one of his many teapots that he’s bought in his attempt to replace the one I broke. He’s been using this one for a few days, so I think we have a winner. Thank fuck. “Poor bastards. As for me, I get a monthly stipend for doing absolutely nothing.”
“Good. You may have to support our asses while Leo and I figure shit out,” Alaric says.
Oliver lifts his shoulders.
“Leo thinks he’s going to open a go-kart track.”
“What the bloody fuck?”
“Fuck off, the both of you,” I snap, but they’re both laughing so hard now that I start to fall into it, too. “It was the first thing that came to mind. Maybe I’ll have a whole damn amusement park. Does that sound big enough for you?”
Oliver pats my back. “You can do whatever you want. You’re a Jarvis.”
“Your sarcasm is not lost on me, pecker head.”
He breaks out a huge smile. “Good. If it was, I’d be more worried than if you actually do start a go-kart track.”
I’m never going to fucking live that down. But really? It sounds kind of cool to me. A place where people have fun? That’s a huge upgrade to where I’ve lived my entire life. It would be nice to hear laughter and screams of excitement all day rather than scolding and threats.
“Well, this has been enlightening,” Oliver says. “But where’s Eden?”
Alaric and I still. “What do you mean where’s Eden?” I ask.
He’s walking out of the kitchen. “Exactly what I said. Where is she?”
“She wasn’t with you?” Alaric asks, standing from his spot on the stool again. He edges in front of me as we both chase Oliver down. “Oliver, she’s not with you?”
