He slanted his mouth over hers and kissed her for a long, wickedly thrilling minute before raising his head. ‘Exatamente.’
With a suave move that left her breathless, he swung her into his arms, paused to check that the nanny was overseeing their sons, before carrying her down the hall to their bedroom.
He laid her out on the bed, then shrugged out of his polo shirt and cargo pants in two smooth moves. Naked, he prowled over to join her. Elbows braced on either side of her head, his eyes burning bright, he stared down at her. ‘Tell me you’re satisfied, meu coração. Tell me I’ve made you happy?’
It still stunned her that a man as powerful and charismatic as Joao sought reassurance from her. That her happiness meant so much to him. But somehow it did.
‘Words cannot truly express the joy you bring me, Joao. But perhaps I can find a few for what I need to tell you.’
His eyes feverishly probed hers. ‘What is it?’
She caught up one hand, brought it to her lips and kissed his scarred palm. Intertwining their fingers, she drew them down to rest on her stomach.
His breath audibly caught. ‘Saffie?’
Tears prickling her eyes, she leaned up and kissed him. ‘I went to see Dr Demarco today. I’m ten weeks along.’
Whisky-gold eyes caressed her face, then dropped to her stomach. ‘Meu Deus. I thought I knew what happiness was. You’ve just shown me a whole new dimension.’
They shared a slow, languorous kiss, during which Joao managed to divest her of her negligee. She welcomed him home, waited until he was deeply seated inside her and they were frantically catching their breaths before she delivered the final news.
‘There wasn’t just one heartbeat, Joao. There were two. We’re having another set of twins.’
His whole body visibly shook and Saffie caught a glint of tears in his eyes as his mouth dropped reverently over hers. ‘Saffie. My Saffie. With you my cup has truly run over. Eu te amo muito.’
‘I love you, too.’
