Rylan Saintcrow and Jake Kincaid are back again, but this time, Saintcrow fears not for his own life but for the life of his beloved wife Kadie. Like several other vampires less than a hundred years old, Kadie has been stricken with a mysterious plague-like curse, lying in a near-death coma. Other vampires across the state of Wyoming are also stricken by this malady and have already died the second death but for some reason, older vampires are not affected, and only those in Wyoming…so far. And not even Rylan’s powerful ancient blood has helped revive her.

Joining forces with his friend Kincaid, Saintcrow seeks the help of a powerful black witch, Izabela. Not only do they have to destroy their enemy, a powerful necromancer Luca Sasan they had fought in the past, but Saintcrow is being stalked by his sire, Eleni.

When the curse is finally broken and Kadie, now human again, has her memories back, Saintcrow is still confronted by his sire, Eleni. The master vampire has her own desires, and they involve destroying Kadie and claiming Saintcrow for herself.
