Or at least I thought so. My life is suddenly uprooted when my mom spontaneously elopes with a stranger who happens to be a billionaire media mogul from Malibu. In a matter of days, I’ve left everything behind—my friends, my school, and my mentor—and living in a gigantic mansion on the coast of California.

Once there, everything is at my fingertips—exotic cars, expensive clothes, celebrities, even a private jet. What I didn’t anticipate was my primal reaction to my new stepbrother, Matthias Vaulteneau, college swimming champion and alluring bad boy. He’s Tempting with a capital T. Matty’s eyes follow my every move and I can’t tell if he thinks my mom and I are running a long con or if he wants something more, something dangerous from me.

The problem? I can’t afford to let my mind go there, especially when Matty starts throwing irresistible dares my way, or else the secrets I’m trying to hold close might unravel.

In my effort to rattle him, I start with a few dares, which is a mistake, because it throws us together when it’s clear he wants nothing to do with me. In the process, Ciaran stumbles onto the fact that my friends and I are dabbling in the world of stolen artifacts. We have our reasons, good reasons, not that I have any intention of explaining them to Ciaran. Except he makes me want to confide in him and I’m starting to envision a different future, one where we can be together.

The problem? I’m worried my attraction toward Ciaran is fatal enough to tear everything apart. For us, love may not be enough when demons from our pasts catch up to us.
