Story: Counting Down to You
Dear Sophie
I hope this email finds you well after all this time. I’m sorry I missed you earlier today. It would have been good to catch up!! What are the chances we’re both living in Bristol?! That’s such a bizarre coincidence! Congratulations on your new business!
Bernard gave me your flyer and contact details after I admired the triangular-patterned quilt in the window. I’d like to commission one of your memory quilts if possible. Please can you drop me an email re your rates ASAP?
Warm wishes,
Your old friend, Adam.
P.S. Is it possible to borrow the mathematical quilt to show my pupils?

Dear Adam
I hope this email finds you well too. I was surprised to discover you’re here in Bristol.
Unfortunately, I’m run off my feet with orders and have a long waiting list. You could get back in touch in four to six months’ time to see if I’m free?
Regards,
Sophie
P.S. Sorry, my quilt isn’t available for loan. A customer has reserved it.

Dear Sophie
Thank you for coming back to me so quickly! It’s great your quilts are in demand! I’m incredibly happy for you! You deserve every success! I am prepared to offer double what your other customers are paying if you let me jump the queue!
Warm wishes,
Adam

Dear Adam
Unfortunately, I’m unable to alter my booking system. I’m sorry to disappoint on this occasion but wish you luck commissioning a memory quilt elsewhere.
Regards,
Sophie

Dear Sophie
Thanks for the info re your booking system.
I’m willing to offer £700 for a double bed quilt, which is triple the rates I’ve found online (we have lots of clothes to use!!). What do you think?
Warm wishes,
Adam

Dear Sophie
I haven’t heard back from you yet... I can go up to £850 max if this can be completed quickly. Please can you let me know what you think? I am free to meet early Thurs or Fri evenings to discuss further.
Warm wishes,
Adam

Adam,
Bernard says you called the shop earlier and discussed commissioning a quilt with him! We’ve debated your proposal. I can fit you in at short notice for £850 – but only because Bernard needs half this amount for the hire of his in-demand workspace.
Please drop off the fabrics you want me to use and any preferred designs to the shop. We could arrange a Zoom call (the camera doesn’t work, sorry) or we can continue to communicate via email?
Regards,
Sophie

Dear Sophie
I’d much prefer to discuss this project face to face.
How about we meet tomorrow at The Friendly Hideout café in Stapleton at 4.30 p.m.? I’ve attached links to the café website and directions. I think you’ll like it!
Warm wishes,
Adam
